History and Mission

Where We Started and What We Do

In 2012, a conversation was started between a couple of Fire Safety guys at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA regarding the idea of traveling to other NASCAR events as certified Pit Road Firefighters.  Since we were already experienced racing venue firefighters with several years under our belts, it made sense to extend the online training provided by NASCAR on an annual basis and offer that certification and experience to other tracks.

After a few years of lukewarm reception by various tracks, the idea began to take hold as trained track personnel were starting to thin out and availability of enough people to fill much needed spots began to wane.  Word of mouth spread to colleagues from other tracks and our ranks of a now-established Traveling Fire Safety Team started to grow.  “TFST” (pronounced T-FAST) was borne out of a need and desire to provide trained, experienced, and knowledgeable professional Pit Lane Firefighters to many NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula 1 and other racing events as that need ultimately grew.

Our goal and mission revolve around our need to grow our ranks with interested and experienced Pit Lane Fire Safety personnel and to provide tracks with trained and certified TFST members in all areas of Pit Lane positions including individual Pit Box stations, Roving Firefighters, Pit Captains, Pit Boss and Race Control / Tower-Capable personnel.  Because we were literally all that was available to choose from in such a limited and specialized category of professional racing Fire Safety personnel, we proudly use the phrase:

“We Are the Best of What’s Left”
