Our Services
Fire and Medical incidents involving race cars, drivers, pit crew members, and associated pit box guests can occur at any time throughout the greater Pit Lane operating area.
Staffing shortages are occurring on a regular basis for various reasons and issues. The Traveling Fire Safety Team (TFST) can manage and supply qualified Pit Lane Firefighters with experienced, trained and professional personnel.
How we work:
A race track’s Fire Safety Director or designated representative can contact the TFST President, Vice President or designated representative with his or her needs to cover open Pit Road spots at their respective track for their professional event. TFST will review the list of available members and based on their needs will confirm the number of Firefighters required to fill the Pit Road spots requested.
TFST members will report to their scheduled track, review that tracks’ workdays, assignments, report times, Pit Lane box assignments and any other related duties.

Since 2014, a pilot program founded by a couple of Auto Club Speedway Fire Safety Team members, have been facilitating requests from Las Vegas, Sonoma and Phoenix racetracks; specifically, to accommodate Pit Road Firefighter shortages for either one or more of their regularly scheduled racing series events. The shortage of trained and experienced Pit Road Firefighters has been increasing annually.
In 2021, the pilot program has become a registered company, known as the “Traveling Fire Safety Team LLC”, or TFST, and currently has over 70 Firefighter members from the West Coast, Mid-West and the East Coast. All members maintain up to date training standards with NASCAR Track Services online courses and annual hands-on training at their respective home tracks. Maintaining proficiency and continuing education and certification is mandatory for all members.
-
TFST members fall into one or more of the following conditions:
· Full-time employment with a paid fire department agency.
· Many years of Pit Road firefighting experience at their home and / or away tracks.
· Retired from their respective careers with at least 10+ years of experience with various fire safety racing events.
Each of the over 70+ TFST members is hand selected by their fellow members having one or more of the experiences listed above. Many members hold extensive experience in various duties at their home and away track positions. These skillsets include on-track training and instruction, Crew Chief, Fire / Cut Truck, Fuel Island, Garage and Race Control / Tower experience. Each TFST member has extensive knowledge of home and away track property layouts, radio language and, most of all, professionalism with teams, owners, security, and guest relations.
-
Typical costs associated with requesting TFST members can vary, depending on the following:
· TFST members requested may require round trip air-fare costs to be covered by requesting track based on a suggested “more than four-hour” ground travel time to the requesting track.
· Ground transportation to and from nearby airport including to and from requesting track site for the duration of the requested time-frame, usually as a group of TFST members.
· Lodging for all TFST members for the duration of each request.
